Best Halloween Costumes for Nurses

Rosie the Riveter costumeWorking on Halloween doesn’t have to be a drag. While masks and full costumes are probably not allowed at your facility, you can still dress up and celebrate the holiday. It just takes a little creativity and a little bit of makeup and fabric. Here are eight Halloween costume ideas for nurses:

Smarty pants

Buy a bag of Smarties, grab some scotch tape and stick a bunch of the candy rolls to your pants. Just avoid sitting on them or you’ll end up with chalky crumbs everywhere (though you probably won’t be sitting much anyway). If candy isn’t OK for work, write the word “smarty” on pieces of paper and tape them to your scrub pants.

Rosie the Riveter

All you need to pull off this costume is some bright red lipstick, a red bandana, and a blue button-up shirt. Even a navy blue scrub top will work if your Halloween dress code is strict. Just make sure to flex your muscles for coworkers and patients.

Party animal

Wear a rubber pig or cow nose, or paint whiskers and the tip of your nose to look like a cat. Then add a cardboard party hat and act crazy (within reason).

Identity thief

Put on all black (if you can) and wear a black bandit mask. Then buy an inexpensive pack of name badge labels, write other people’s names on them, and stick them all over your shirt and pants.

Queen of hearts makeupQueen or King of Hearts

Buy a deck of cards and cut a few of the heart cards into pentagon shapes. Then tape or hot glue them together to make a small crown. Bonus points if you paint hearts below your eyes or add a heart-shaped pout to your lips.

Carrot Top

Sure, people probably haven’t thought about the comedian Carrot Top for a while, but cutting carrots out of orange and green felt and sticking them to your shirt is simple and will make your coworkers laugh.

Operation game

This costume is particularly appropriate for work and costs practically nothing! Wear a red ball over your nose and stick apple, wishbone, butterfly, horse, wrench, pencil and bread shapes over your pants and shirt like the classic game.

Spelling bee

Wear a yellow shirt or scrub top and create “stripes” with black duct tape. Then wear an antenna headband made of pipe cleaners and stick words all over your shirt.
