Infinite outdoor adventures
Stretching 277 miles, the Grand Canyon is arguably one of the most beautiful places on Earth. With hiking, rim, airplane and helicopter tours, the options to experience the Grand Canyon are endless. The Grand Canyon National Park is just one of the 22 majestic parks located throughout the state. If boating and water sports top your list, the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is waiting for you. Lake Powell begins in northern Arizona and contains nearly 2,000 miles of shoreline. With an average water temperature of 90 degrees during the summer months, Lake Powell is a great place to relax.
Rich in history
Arizona was the forty-eighth state to join the Union and is home to 21 Native American tribes. The Havasupai tribe has lived in the Grand Canyon for more than 800 years, and their land is home to stunning waterfalls like Havasu Falls and Mooney Falls. Don’t miss the Meteor Crater, created approximately 50,000 years ago when an asteroid collided with Earth. Truly a sight to behold, the crater is nearly one mile across and 550 feet deep. Finally, take a tour of the Hoover Dam and learn more about how it transforms power from the raging Colorado River into hydroelectricity.
Filled with culture
Experience the Southwest in its splendor by visiting Tucson, teeming with art, shopping and family fun, or head two hours north to Phoenix. The capital city, located within one of the world’s most colorful deserts, also has a stunning mountainous backdrop. With continuous warm sunshine, it is easy to get lost in Phoenix’s breathtaking scenery while experiencing hiking and biking trails, golfing or visiting one of its many day spas. To get outside the big city, visit Patagonia for wine tasting, bird watching and delicious local cuisine. Another of Arizona’s best small cities is Flagstaff, located along historic Route 66 and home to the Lowell Observatory, where in 1930 Percival Lowell discovered the one-time planet Pluto.
