Travel Nursing Destination: Ohio

Travel nursing in OhioWant to experience the Midwest while living just hours away from the urban life of New York City and the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains? Ohio is just the destination for you. Read on to see what makes this state the perfect spot for your next travel nursing assignment.

Proximity to Lake Erie. Ohio is bordered on the north by Lake Erie, and two of its major cities — Toledo and Cleveland — are located along its shores. If you’re looking for a picturesque weekend trip, check out the Lake Erie Shore, a 100-mile stretch along the lake with golden beaches, ferry rides to the shore islands and even the Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky. Lake Erie is the shallowest and warmest of the Great Lakes, which means it also has the best fishing. More than 50 percent of Great Lakes fishing takes place in Lake Erie, and it boasts walleye, steelhead, perch, smallmouth bass, salmon and more. In the wintertime, try your hand at ice-fishing or take a snowmobile ride along the shore (or across the lake, if it’s frozen).

Home to two halls of fame. Whether you’re a Beatles fan or enjoy more contemporary rock like Green Day, you’ll find memorabilia, photos and plenty of music history at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland. See John Lennon’s jacket from the Beatles’ Sergeant Pepper album, Kurt Cobain’s electric guitar and even Jimi Hendrix’s handwritten lyrics to “Purple Haze.” Just an hour south of Cleveland, in Canton, you can check out the Pro Football Hall of Fame and see years’ worth of football gear, the Vince Lombardi trophy and uniforms. Visitors can even make their own Super Bowl rings.

Access to living history. Walk back in time when you visit Holmes county, where more than 19,000 Amish live and work. The Amish and Mennonite Heritage Center provides visitors a glimpse into Amish religion and culture, and you can tour a 116-acre farm at Yoder’s Amish Home in Millersburg. For the latest updates on upcoming activities, check out VisitAmishCountry.com. You can also get a look at what the buzz surrounding the Erie Canal in the 1800s was like by visiting the Historic Roscoe Village, just south of Canton.
