Travel Nurse Spotlight: Pam Bartow

Nurse Pam BartowPam Bartow has been a nurse for 25 years and says she can’t imagine doing anything else. The Georgia native just took her first travel nurse assignment with RNnetwork in her home state and is looking forward to many more.

“Travel nursing is opening so many new challenges and opportunities for me. I am being stretched personally as well as professionally,” Pam says. “I am honing skills that I’ve been lacking, and I learn so much from other people.”

Stopping nurse burnout

As an emergency room nurse, Pam particularly enjoys the adventure and changes that travel nursing jobs bring. She says the opportunity to travel has helped her get out of a rut.

“I was just going through the motions in my work, and that’s so boring! Now I have the excitement and love of nursing back,” Pam expresses. “Traveling is refreshing this passion in me, and it is so much fun to be learning new things again.”

One of the biggest challenges for Pam, who is very social, has been leaving her husband and daughter at home while she travels. She plans to buy a motorhome in the future so her family can come along for the ride and she can feel more at home on assignment.

“I am fortunate to have such a supportive family, and I am eager to gain licensing from other states so I can see more of our great country, especially Florida, California, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii,” Pam says. “I was apprehensive to take this plunge, but I am so happy today that I did. Travel nursing is such a great way to see the United States one assignment at a time.”

Lending a helping hand

Pam recommends new travelers be flexible and pitch in wherever they can. She also suggests remaining objective and enjoying your assignment while not becoming involved in the facility politics.

“The best part of travel nursing is going to new hospitals, meeting new people and establishing new professional relationships,” Pam says, “and I truly consider it a privilege to care for my patients. Nursing is such a gift; we are involved in people’s lives during major life changes.”

Though she’s new to the field of travel nursing, Pam is already happy with the change of pace she’s enjoying.

“RNnetwork and especially my recruiter, Diedra, has been a joy to work with. I have had such a great experience with this company,” Pam expresses. “Nursing is not just a profession, it’s a lifestyle! I want to make it as exciting as I can, and today that means traveling.”
