Travel Nurse Spotlight: Jason Conty

Jason Conty, travel nurseWhen Jason Conty told his parents he and his wife, Princess, had some news to tell them at dinner, travel nursing was the last thing on their minds.

“We’re newlyweds, and they thought, ‘Oh my gosh. We’re going to have a baby — a grandchild.’ You could see it in their faces. When I said, ‘We’re going travel nursing,’ their faces changed and we immediately got a lot of questions,” Jason recalls. “Now my mom talks about my job all the time and is so excited when we come back home to Virginia and share our experiences with them.”

Making sacrifices for travel nursing jobs

Jason, who met his wife during nursing school, says they decided to try travel nursing jobs because they wanted to get out of their routines and do something different. He and Princess sold their home, gave away all their furniture and decided to give it a shot.

“We’d always put travel nursing in the back of our heads and thought, ‘Why not do it?’ We’re all about the experience and seeing what the U.S. has to offer,” Jason says. “We’ve never regretted it.”

Traveling the country with your spouse

Currently on assignment in Florida, Jason says traveling with his wife is like honeymooning year-round.

“When you’re off, you’re on vacation and you can do anything. Who better to share it with than your other half?” Jason expresses. “We’ve got beaches, fishing, different restaurants, a good mix of people and a new environment.”

While their next destination isn’t as romantic as Florida, it’s glamorous in its own way.

“Our next assignment is Nashville, Tenn., because we’ve always heard it’s the country music capital of the United States,” Jason says. “We like live entertainment, so that’s one big thing for us, and maybe we’ll meet celebrities just walking around there. It’s something we’re really looking forward to.”

Jason was one of eight nurses who attended our recent nurse panel. Look for a video about his experiences coming soon — and check out panelist Karen Leitnaker’s video about improving your skills as a travel nurse.
